I admit I have a soft spot for G-Shock adventure watches, but not enough use cases to hit the Fenix. So finding that Amazfit released a new version of T-REX intrigued me to say at least.
Not really a Garmin Fenix killer, but at this price point damn good fitness watch.
I am using it as a fitness tracker, as a smart watch it is sub-par in my opinion, you can’t even select which calendars to sync.
I don’t really care about readiness scores (plainly garbage data on this watch) and extertion, let alone step counting. Training a few times a week, I find it funny to track steps to see how active you are and looking at a watch to tell you how tired you are.
I have used the watch on a few rides as a secondary computer to the Garmin 840. Performs well, GPS is accurate, ascent is a few percent different than the bike computer (speed sensor equipped). Form factor of a watch is not really useful on a bike, as it is hard to look at it and click around. HR tracking is 50:50 with Garmin, sometimes one does badly, then the other goes wild.
Works great, iPhone with Strava tracking is more accurate, catches all the turns, so in the end more distance. Map looks nice. If you want HR to work, you can’t use sleeve cuffs. Also pretty big, so you need to put in some work to get it out of the sleeve and back in. Maybe it should be over the jacket and skip HR tracking. Can be operated with gloves via buttons.
All good from my amateur perspective.
All good.
